Surprising Ways to Burn Calories This Summer
Break
out of the gym rut and venture outdoors this summer to burn calories while you
enjoy the scenery.
Why exercise indoors during summers when there are so many
fun activities you can do outside and enjoy the scenery as well. Learn what all
you can do this summers to stay in shape.
Mountain Biking
As a workout, it takes a lot of energy to climb up mountain trails ,But it’s good interval training, and you get a great payoff on the way back down. Interval training alternates short bursts of intense activity with stretches of lighter activity, and it can really boost your calorie burning power. Mountain biking helps develop reaction skills that you can't learn on a gym machine. Reacting to real terrain gives you a better core workout than just programming a machine to simulate hills. If you are a professional you will burn a lot more but even novices can take to the hills on beginner trails and still burn as many as 400 calories in 30 minutes.
Trail Running
Skip the simulated version at the gym and hit some real trails. Like mountain biking, trail running builds reaction skills. You end up needing to push yourself harder when climbing on trails, And that burns more calories. You can burn up to 400 calories in half an hour of trail running.
Hiking
Ditch the indoor track and take the scenic route. Hiking offers many of the same benefits as trail running, without the impact. It’s an especially good lower-body and cardio workout for people who need to go easy on their knees and other joints. Plus, it’s fun to do with friends and family. Many state parks offer hiking trails for varying fitness levels. By cross-country hiking at a moderate pace, you can burn around 200 calories.
More Outdoor Calorie-Burning Fun
In addition to the above mentioned activities there are a lot more . Experiment with these different options and find out what works best for you . Remember exercise should not be a burden for you, if you do what you enjoy the best it will be so much fun.

5 Stealth Skin Agers
Do
you look older than you should ? You know that you shouldn't bake your skin at
the beach, and you wouldn't dream of picking up a cigarette for many reasons,
but there are under-the-radar habits that might be damaging your skin. Do you
have any of these habits ? Read further to identify
Indulging a Sweet Tooth
If you fill up too often on foods that are loaded with sugar, or foods that
are high on the glycemic index, like white bread and pasta, you may eventually
find that your skin looks older than it should. What exactly does sugar do to the skin? After you indulge in a sweet treat, sugar breaks down into glucose, which eats away at collagen and elastin, the structural proteins that make up the skin. This process, called glycation, causes collagen to harden over time, and this, in turn, makes your skin less supple and its texture worse.
Taking Window Seats
Even if you're vigilant about applying SPF in the morning, you can still
suffer damaging sun exposure if you sit near a window at the office, or if you
spend a significant amount of time commuting in a car. To avoid the stealth sun
exposure, keep a small bottle of sunscreen in your desk drawer in the office if
you work near a window, or in your glove compartment if you commute by car, and
reapply it every two hours.
Stressing Out
Stress can play a big role in making you look older. When you're stressed,
your body pumps up the production of cortisol, a stress hormone, which in turn
increases the levels of matrix metalloproteinases, enzymes that then break down
collagen and elastin. In addition, stress can cause you to frown or squint, and over time, these expression lines can become more pronounced on the face. You should try to find out ways to relax you. Some people are relaxed with music, swimming helps a few and yoga works for most people. Taking a vacation whenever possible can also prove to be helpful to relieve stress.
Skipping Sleep
Not getting enough sleep can make you look older. Sleep is when your body
repairs, heals, and regenerates itself, and if you take that away, you slow
this process and the skin reflects it — this is the direct effect. If you cant
take proper sleep during night then try to take naps during day time whenever
possible.
Overdoing Anti-Aging Products
Sometimes over usage of anti-aging products such as retinol can be
excessively drying for the skin which in turn will make wrinkles more
prominent. If you are using any such ingredients its better to use them
temporarily only and while you are on those keep a very strict moisturizing
routine. Hydrate skin with products that contain vitamin E and glycerin. These
ingredients help plump up the skin, making any wrinkles and fine lines less
pronounced.Related Products: http://bit.ly/1ibc8H3

There are the 7 deadly universal
sins that people often commit without realizing but it does horrible things to
your hair and scalp.
Sin#1: Probably the most
unforgivable:
OVER WASHING HAIR
With summer hitting us with the high tide we tend to run into the shower more then once a day if not once daily. A lot of us with greasy hair feel the need to wash our hair daily some even wash their hair multiple times a day. However this is one of the worst things you can do as this strips the hair of natural oils. Hair often becomes greasy when the scalp produces too much sebum, so when you wash your hair you actually stimulate the sebum glands making them produce more oil. In turn making your hair greasier.

yourself to a dry shampoo.
SIN#2
RUBBING YOUR HAIR WITH A TOWEL
If you are not supposed to rub your skin, you are not supposed to rub your hair also.
Rubbing the hair shaft with a towel disrupts the hair cuticle, damaging hair. Which in turn creates frizz and makes hair less manageable.

SIN#3
OVER CONDITIONING YOUR HAIR
NO you don't need to condition your hair every time you shampoo, maybe just twice a week or so, and NO you also don't need to condition your scalp. Conditioner should only be used on the mid sections and ends of the hair where the scalps natural oils don't reach. If you condition the roots which are already coated with natural oils, will cause limp, lifeless hair.

APPLYING HAIR PRODUCTS TO SUPER WET HAIR
We have all done it when we are in a rush, so we try to speed up getting ready by applying moose or leave in conditioner on our freshly washed hair straight after stepping out the shower. However doing this you're wasting product. Wet hair isn't as porous so your products just slip off the strands rather attach to the hair shaft.

IGNORING THOSE SPLIT ENDS
Ignoring split ends is a sin most of us are guilty of at some point. As much as I wish there was a miracle treatment to repair split ends. Remedies and treatments may make them look better or at best temporarily seal them together. The only way to get rid of split ends is to have them cut off.

The Importance of Makeup Primers
Credits: makeup.com |
Just as an artist getting ready to paint his masterpiece on
a bare canvas, they must get the new canvas ready before a drop of paint
is applied. For an artist, this process neutralizes the canvases natural
hue so that it does not change the overall coloring of the final painting.
While doing the makeup consider your bare face as a canvas. Your makeup
application will be easier , smoother and your makeup will last a really long
time. Some primers will also brighten the appearance of your skin . You can
also use primers on their own just to get an evened out complexion.
What do primers do ?
Primers actually create a barrier between your skin and your
foundation. By using primers you are applying makeup but it is not in direct
contact with your skin . Thus your skin will be relatively protected from the
harmful chemicals present in your makeup. Also when this barrier is created
between the skin and makeup your foundation doesn't oxidize due to the sebum
production and therefore your makeup stays fresh for a longer period of time.
There are some on the market that has SPF formulation to protect your
face from the harmful UVA and UVB rays as well as moisturizing and oil
controlling properties.
The other kinds of primers available in the market and their
uses :
Eye primer
An eye primer is used as a base on the
eyelids and sometimes even below the eyelids as a concealer base. Some of The
eye primers also take care of the darkness of the lids and provide you with a
neutralized lid so that the eye shadows appear vibrant and true to the color
when applied. The eye primer also prevents your eye shadows from creasing and
overall increase the lasting power of your eye shadows. You can find eye primers
in different forms in market i.e liquids or cream formulations.
Lip primer
Lip primers are probably the least common
kind of primers but still they are available in the market . Lip primers are
used for prepping the lips for lipstick application. Lip primers specially come
handy with dryer formulated lipsticks. Your lipsticks will last longer , the
application will be smoother and the dry formula of your lipstick won’t
irritate you.

Anti aging – When to start?
It is a common
concern for the women of today. When should they actually start with an
anti-aging routine? Also what steps do I need to follow (considering anti-aging
routine can be different varying from individual to individual?)
Generally there is
no fixed rule as to when you should start, but if you are in your mid-20s, most
dermatologists agree on this that you should start with anti aging
products.
The anti aging products for a
25 year old and a 40 year old will be different. For the 25 year old it’s not
necessary that the creams being used are actually labeled anti-aging. A simple
night time serum/ moisturizer would do as well.
The oily skin type
people are lucky in this regard. Therefore if you have oily skin you probably
have a longer time on hand before you start with a routine. For dry skin types
it’s safe to say 23 is the right age for you to start with anti aging.
Besides using anti
aging products what can you do to prevent aging naturally? Here are some
guidelines you can follow
Drink lots of juices
Fruits are packed
with vitamins/ anti-oxidants. If your daily diet includes juices you can
prevent aging and generally have a fresh complexion. It is best that you drink
fresh juices (not the packaged kind). But if you really need to buy from the
super market check the label for 100% natural.
Drink Green tea
Green tea is
another drink full of anti-oxidants. There are plenty of other health benefits
associated with green tea as well, such as prevention of cancer, weight loss,
better metabolism etc. It is safe to say Green tea is the healthiest form of
tea.
Be happy
The physical damage caused to your body by
stress has only recently become appreciated by the scientific community. Fill
your life with things you love and get rid of almost everything else. Practice
stress relieving activities like meditation and exercise, and learn to
appreciate joy when you find it. Happiness does a body good.
Avoid sugar
Sugar is a direct
cause of aging and significantly reduces lifespan in organisms from yeast to
primates. Not by a small amount either.
Wear sunscreen
Never walk out the
door without sunscreen on your face. UV radiation from the sun damages your
skin and promotes aging.
Don’t
smoke
Smoking is one of the easiest ways to look
older than you really are and shorten your life at the same time.
Take vitamin D
Some research
suggests that vitamin D may be particularly important in slowing the aging
process. The jury is still out on the value of vitamin D supplements for aging,
but they seem to have enough other benefits that it’s worth the investment.
Eat
beans and lentils
Legumes are a
fabulous source of minerals that can help keep your skin hydrated and looking
young.
Eat nuts
Nuts are the
perfect snack food and are filled with anti-aging fats, vitamins and minerals.
They are also great for suppressing appetite–just don’t eat more than a
handful.
Conclusion
When it comes to anti-aging or any other skin related issue
for that matter, prevention is always better than cure. Once aging starts you
can’t really reverse the process but you can definitely take measures to slow
it down.

How To Do an At-Home Facial?
Pic source: health.howstuffworks.com |
You don't need to go to a spa to give your skin some TLC. Try this easy and effective advice for doing a facial treatment at home and your complexion will thank you.
When you don’t have the time or the money to hit the spa, an at-home facial can be equally relaxing and beneficial. If you put in a little effort, your skin will reflect health and beauty. The compliments you get will be worth the effort once you start taking regular care of your skin.
To make your facial relaxing, light some candles and turn on some soothing music. Never have your phone on while doing a facial and don’t multi-task, Make this all about you!
The steps of an at-home facial mirror those of one at a spa. Whether at home or in the salon, the steps are meant to prepare the skin sequentially for extraction. Start by washing your face to remove makeup and oils, and then use an exfoliating product, such as a mask or a gentle scrub. At home, it is recommended you apply an exfoliating mask before you jump into the shower. The steam from your shower will keep the mask active while you shampoo, shave, etc. Alternatively, you can use an at-home steamer for similar results.

Though most doctors and aestheticians, don’t recommend doing extractions
yourself, for those who opt not to follow that advice and are confident they
can do them properly, You can use two cotton swabs instead of your fingers
because we tend to break the skin with our fingernails and can risk leaving a
mark. Once you have extracted the area, clean the area with a toner.
Follow with a mask appropriate for your skin type. A hydrating mask works for dry skin, a brightening mask helps to bring back a glow, and a clarifying mask will deep clean pores. Leave it on for 15 minutes, and then rinse with warm, not hot, water.
The final step is to apply a serum and moisturizer. For added benefits, massage these products into your skin. A gentle massage downward on the sides of the neck in a circular motion encourages lymphatic drainage and decreases swelling. To reduce puffiness underneath your eyes, gently massage from the inner corner to the outer using circular motions.

Benefits of Almond Oil on your body. (16 uses for almond oil)
I feel that our body is our sanctuary. Why not help make
it better naturally? Almonds are one of the most widely used ingredients in the
cosmetic industry and for good reason. Following are just some of the benefits they
have.
1. They reduce heart attack and heart disease risk.
Those who consume nuts five times a week have about a 50 percent reduction in risk of heart attack according to the Loma Linda School of Public Health. Almond oil is a great source of potassium and folic acid, protein and mono saturated fats. Why are these important? Well in essence, they aid in keeping several different types of heart diseases as far away from you as possible. The best way to make sure you’re having enough almond oil in your diet is to add half a teaspoon in addition to any other oil you use for cooking.

Almonds added to the diet have a favorable effect on blood cholesterol levels, according to a clinical study by Dr. Gene Spiller, Director of the Health Research and Studies Center, Inc. Include almond oil in your daily diet, because as I mentioned above, the high potassium content in almond oil helps keep your blood pressure at a healthy level. 3. They provide healthy fats and aid in weight
loss:
Although nuts are high in fat, frequent nut eaters are
thinner on average than those who almost never consume nuts. (Data from the
Nurses’ Health Study) Those who ate nuts at least two times per week were 31
percent less likely to gain weight than were those who never or seldom ate them
in a study involving 8865 adults. (WHFood’s article on almonds)
4. Muscle Relaxation &Aromatherapy
Typically found in massage spas (commonly used by massage
therapist because of its natural ability to blend well with other oils), almond
oil can be used to provide almost immediate relief to sore and stiff muscles.
Often used to treat muscular pain because it is easily absorbed into the
skin, it also provides a sweet fragrance that soothes and relaxes.
5. They alkalize the body.
Almonds are the only nut and one of the few proteins that are alkaline forming. When your body is not alkaline enough, you risk osteoporosis, poor immune function, low energy and weight gain.

6. Enhances Blood Circulation & Helps in Child’s
Healthy Bone Development:
Massaging with Almond oil not only helps in enhancing the
blood circulation but also helps in a child’s bone development. Giving your
baby a regular massage with almond oil helps in keeping the baby’s skin soft
and helps in healthy bone development. You can also use it to massage your
baby’s hair.
7. Relieves Pain & Stress in Muscles:
Almond oil has analgesic properties. It helps in
relieving pain and stress from strained muscles. To get rid of pain in the neck
or knee joint pain, get a hot almond oil massage for the affected area. In case
you have had a long day and your feet are killing you, take a bowl of warm water,
add a few drops of almond oil in it and soak your feet till the water seems
cold. This will not only help you to get rid of the foot pain, but also ensure
that your feet do not dry after being treated in warm water.
8. Makes Skin Healthier:
Almond oil is a rich source of Vitamins A, B and E which
are great for your skin’s health. It
helps in maintaining the moisture levels of your skin and gets absorbed in a
jiffy without blocking your pores which we all know is one of the most common
reasons behind a number of skin problems. It particularly helps if you have
extremely dry or sensitive and irritated skin.
9. Reduces Dark Under Eye Circles:
If you want to get rid of those big bad dark circles,
just rub sweet almond oil under your eyes daily before going to bed. Doing this
religiously and regularly will not only help in reducing dark circles but also
prevent blemishes and fine lines.
10. Delays Signs of Ageing:
Almond oil is one of your best bets when it comes to
reversing and preventing signs of aging. It helps in renewing the skin cells
and revitalizes the skin, making you look fresh, young and radiant.
11. Makes Hair Long & Healthy:
The simplest way to take care of your hair is to give
them a regular oil massage. Add almond oil to this routine and you would get
long and healthy hair. Regular usage of this oil for hair massage also helps in
nourishing the hair from the cuticles, which makes them all the more smooth,
soft and manageable. It also promotes blood circulation in the scalp, promotes
growth of new hair, fastens the process of repair of damaged hair, protects the
hair from breakage and all in all makes them stronger.
12. Works on Splits Ends & Heavy Hair Fall:
If you suffer from heavy hair fall and split ends, mix
almond, castor and olive oil in equal proportions; heat it and apply this
combination to your hair. Apply this once a week and you will notice a change
in a few weeks.
13. Treats Chapped Lips:
We all want to have soft and pink lips. One of the
simplest ways of preventing and treating chapped lips is using almond oil
instead of petroleum jelly or your artificial lip balms.
Make your own natural lip balm by mixing 5-6 drops of
almond oil with 1 tbsp. of honey. You can store this in an empty lip balm
container and use it on your lips whenever they feel dry. You will notice that
your lips are soft and smooth and have that natural healthy pinkish glow to
them.
14. Facial massage
The best time to use almond oil for facial massage is
before bed. It ensures that the oil will stay long enough so that it can
perform its functions well. Almond oil massage helps to reduce dark circles
under eye, remove dead skin cells, improves the texture of your facial skin.
Another benefit of taking almond oil facial massage before bed is that the
solution is actually very relaxing.
Almond oil also reduces sunburn effects on face, prevents
aging, and gets rid of wrinkles. You can almost say that this oil is an
all-in-one natural substance for your facial treatments.
15. Cleanser
People with acne problems or sensitive skin are not
suggested to use almond oil for facial scrub, but they can use the oil as
facial cleanser. The good thing is that you don’t need to mix it with other
solution.
Apply almond oil directly to your facial
skin and leave it for several minutes.
Almond oil facial cleanser removes dirt as effectively as
the facial scrub. Basically, the cleanser will open pores, which will help to
force dead skin cells and dirt to come out to the surface. As you wash your
face, the dirt will also go away.
16. Facial Moisturizer
The most common benefit of almond oil for face is that it
can be used as daily moisturizer. It does not only soften rough or dry skin,
but almond oil also creates protective layer on the face. It is very easy to
use almond oil as facial moisturizer. Simply take some drops of almond oil and
apply it to your face. Please make sure that you only apply the oil on dry skin.
Apply this moisturizer daily for smoother and softer skin.
Conclusion
Almond oil contains essential vitamins for skin health
and beauty including A, E, and D. For this reason, many cosmetic products also
use this oil as the primary ingredient. To gain the most beneficial effects of
almond oil for face, it is probably necessary to mix it with other substances
such as honey or other vegetable oils. Use of Almonds in daily diet is a good
way of living a healthy lifestyle.
WARNING: If you’re allergic to almonds or other tree
nuts, you should not use almond oil, since it can cause severe reactions in
sensitive individuals.
